In this essay I will explain the harsh lifestyle of a specific family in the novel roll of thunder hear my cry in 1976. The Logans are a family that repeatedly face discrimination, especially the kids. There are 4 kids: Cassie, Christopher-john, Little man and Stacey. In those times schools were segregated. The white school was called Jefferson Davis and the black school was called great faith. This interesting novel was written by Mildred d Taylor. Mildred D. Taylor was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on September 13, 1943. I will now show 5 events of harsh discrimination.
The first time discrimination comes upon us is when the Jefferson Davis bus (all white) repeatedly splashed the Logans with muddy water. I know this because little man says: “Big ma, look they did it again just look at my clothes!”
Another time discrimination raised in the book is when the class books were old but the children was excited because it’s their first set of books. Little man opened a page and it stated “books for white people: excellent, very good, good, average and books for black people: very poor for nigra”. This shows discrimination because it states to us the quality of resources black people are allowed to have. I know this because little man said “look miss they gave us these books when they didn’t want em’ no more”
Another time of discrimination is when the Logans are in the line to be served from the shop keeper and while they are waiting, white people pushed in the line and screamed hateful comments to them and the shopkeeper didn’t jump in to help them he just let them be rude and disrespectful to the logans.
